In February 2012 the Medical Negligence team of Cantillons Solicitors successfully settled a claim on behalf of a client who had lost the sight in his left eye. The client had attended his General Practitioner with what were clearly the symptoms of bacterial keratitis. This is an infection that is associated with the use of contact lenses. The GP failed to diagnose bacterial keratitis. Some days later the client went to his local hospital where the diagnosis was made but at that stage it was too late to salvage the sight in the eye. The client was a carpenter by trade and the loss of sight in the left eye impacted on his ability to earn a living. The Medical Negligence team sued the General Practitioner on behalf of the client who, in March 2012, settled the claim for a large sum.
